Most clubs would be happy with a positive points difference of 103 at the end of the season - Harlequins have that many points on the board after the opening weekend thanks to a three-figure mauling of DMP Durham Sharks at the Stoop.

The 2018 and 2019 runners-up looked sharp despite the late-notice start to a campaign, which included a number of rule changes including reducing the length of matches to 35 minutes-a-half. That was still enough time for Quins to run in 17 tries.

Saracens began the defence of their 2019 title (the 19-20 season was annulled due to the Covid-19 crisis) with a less-than-convincing 34-25 win against Worcester.

Exeter Chiefs and Sale Sharks, who have replaced Richmond and Firwood Waterloo for the next three seasons, both lost on their Premier 15s debuts.

Gloucester-Hartpury beat the Chiefs 34-14, while Sale lost 29-7 to Loughborough Lightning.

Bristol's match against Wasps will now be played on 31 October having been postponed because of a coronavirus outbreak.
