History made as Barcelona win first-ever El Clasico
Even Spain's famously masculine sports newspaper Marca recognised the beginning of a new era with the headline 'A New Clasico is Born' to celebrate the first meeting between the women's sides of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Real are taking part in Spain's top flight for the first time having taken over Club Deportivo Tacon, another team in Madrid. However, there was to be no fairytale start for Real as they succumbed 4-0 to the Spanish champions.
Tacon's previous results against Barca had provided a clue to the direction of travel, having lost 9-1 and 6-0 in their last two meetings.
Patricia Guijarro, Lieke Martens and Alexia Putellas all scored for Barcelona whilst there was a Real own goal as well.
