Given Norway's record in qualifying for Euro 2022 going in to their home fixture against Wales (four matches played, four wins, 32 goals scored at an average of eight goals-a-game), the Welsh will head home from Oslo with plenty to proud of in their performance.

They restricted the Norwegians to a 1-0 victory, keeping intact their hopes of finishing second in the group and the potential of qualifying for a first major finals. The nine group winners as well as three best runners-up qualify automatically for the tournament in England which was due to take place next summer. The six remaining second-placed teams will then face play-offs for the last qualifying berths.

Jess Fishlock, currently on loan at Reading, played her first international for 18 months and was influential in keeping the Norway defence busier than the have been in previous qualifiers. The midfielder saw a late header drift wide and Wales were also unfortunate to have a penalty claim for handball waved away in the dying minutes.

Chelsea's Guro Reiten scored the winner for Norway, who extended their lead at the top of Group C to seven points.
