Cowley digs deep to win Rose Ladies Series event

Gabriella Cowley held off a high-quality field to win the fifth event in the Rose Ladies Series. 

Having reached five under par at one point, mistakes on the back nine saw Cowley drop back to finish on two under. 

The World No.576 could only watch as former British Open winner Georgia Hall and Charley Hull both moved to four under out on the course.

But the JCB Golf and Country Club caught out all of Cowley's challengers to see the 24-year-old finish one shot clear.

"It was a nervous wait in the clubhouse but I never lost hope," said Cowley. "I had my dad on the bag and it was a brilliant day from which I'll take a lot of confidence."

She is the fourth different winner in the Rose Ladies Series, following victories for Hull, Meghan MacLaren and two wins for Gemma Dryburgh. 

Hull leads the series overall ahead of Dryburgh with Cowley moving up to third thanks to her success in this event.

There are two more regular tournaments before a three-event finals series in August.
