Top honours for local judo girl
Ruth Goldman from Exmouth in Devon has been awarded one of the most prestigious awards in judo, the coveted Red and White belt. Only a handful of women in the UK have attained this rank, Black Belt 6th Dan.
The award was presented at a celebration event marking Ruth's fifty years on the judo mat. As a pupil of the Community College she was ranked fourth in Great Britain and competed at national and international levels. At the age of sixteen she was awarded her Black Belt by the governing body and subsequently, in 1982, was selected to represent GB in a six nation as tournament in France. Ruth's team took the bronze at that event.
Separate to her contest skills, Ruth has become a highly respected teacher of judo. This accolade to her prowess, and services to judo, was jointly awarded by varying organisations, including the National Coaching Director and Examiner of Judo, British Police.
Ruth teaches at the Exmouth Leisure Centre with her father John Goldman 7th Dan.
