FA Cup review: Arsenal, Everton and Birmingham join holders Man City in the semi-finals

American superstar Alex Morgan was an unused substitute as Spurs lost 4-0 to Arsenal in their FA Cup derby. All of Arsenal's goals came in the last quarter of the game, including a hat-trick for Lisa Evans.

The Spurs coaching staff did not want to risk Morgan's fitness, despite naming her on the bench. Co-head coach Karen Hills said: "We felt it was really important for her to be around the girls today, to be involved in the match day preparations and just get her mind in a match-day environment.

"Obviously today it wasn't meant to be, but she's working really hard, she's growing day by day, her fitness levels are improving all the time, she's physically in great shape so I don't think it will be long before we see Alex Morgan."

Arsenal will face holders Manchester City in the semi-finals on Thursday 1 October following City's 2-1 victory at Leicester. The Foxes - the only Women's Championship side to reach the last eight - made City work hard for their win but a Chloe Kelly penalty and Georgia Stanway's late lob saw the 2019 cup winners through.

The other semi-final will be between Everton and Birmingham City. Everton fell behind at home to Chelsea but recovered to win 2-1. French striker Valerie Gauvin headed in the winner after Lucy Graham had cancelled out Erin Cuthbert's fourth-minute strike.

Birmingham had already lost to Brighton in the Women's Super League this season but held their nerve to force extra time and penalties in their tie on the south coast. It looked like the Blues would win in normal time, having twice led, but a last-minute goal from Denise O'Sullivan took the fixture into additional time. However, Birmingham went on to win the shootout 4-2 with Georgia Brougham scoring the decisive spot kick.
