Women's Super League Weekender: Matchday 2 Review
It was a case of 'anything you can do' as Chelsea joined Arsenal in scoring nine goals in a game. The Gunners' 9-1 demolition of West Ham in front of 734 season ticket holders in Dagenham set the tone for a high-scoring weekend.
However, the Hammers will argue they were well in the game until Arsenal's second goal, which was given despite looking offside. West Ham captain Gilly Flaherty was sent off for her protests against the officiating and Arsenal took full advantage, with Jill Roord scoring her second hat-trick in as many matches.
Chelsea had nine different scorers in their 9-0 battering of Bristol City at Kingsmeadow. Record signing Pernille Harder has yet to start for the Blues but once again she impressed from the bench, scoring her first goal for the champions.
Manchester United were without their star signings Tobin Heath and Christen Press for their trip to Birmingham City but were still able to recover from 2-1 down to win 5-2 - their first victory of the season.
Everton moved level at the top with Arsenal as the only other side with a 100 percent record. The Toffees beat Tottenham 1-0 thanks to a goal from England star Izzy Christiansen.
There was a goalless draw between Manchester City and Brighton. City were guilty of being wasteful in front of goal, despite having a side packed full of Lionesses - only four of their 17 shots were on target.
Reading recoverd from their mauling at the hands of Arsenal on the opening weekend to record their first victory of the season - a 3-1 win against Aston Villa. The Royals scored all their goals before half-time and peppered the Villa goal 29 times in a dominant attacking display.
