"Mature" Osaka sees off veteran Azarenka to become queen of Queens
Naomi Osaka believes the perspective and maturity she gained during a difficult few months of lockdown helped her to produce a stunning comeback to beat Victoria Azarenka in the US Open final.
The double champion lost the first set 6-1 and was a break down in the second before turning the match around to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
It was the Japanese player's third Grand Slam title and her second at Flushing Meadows. "I feel like I've definitely tried to mature. I wasn't really sure the process that I was going to have to take," she said.
"But I feel like the lessons that I learned with life definitely developed me as a person more."
