Konta coming home after US Open capitulation
Johanna Konta was in complete control of her US Open second round match against Sorana Cirstea but saw her game fall apart as she succumbed to one of the worst defeats of her Grand Slam career.
The British number one was a set up and had break points at 5-5 in the second which would have left her serving for the match. Instead, Cirstea took the set to a tie-break and went on to win 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.
"My opponent played better than me, that's really about it," said Konta.
"She obviously raised her level and then we were battling toe-to-toe. She was better in the end.
"I did the best that I could. I really fought hard."
Konta lost in the first round of the Australian Open in January. She will now concentrate on preparing for the French Open which starts at the end of September.
