Konta compares US Open bubble to a cruise ship after Watson victory
Having sailed through her all-British battle against Heather Watson in the first round at the US Open, Johanna Konta made a slightly unusual comparison for being in the bio-secure bubble of Flushing Meadows.
"Being here is like a cruise," said the British number one, who beat her compatriot 7-6, 6-1. "Well, I've never actually been on a cruise but this is how I imagined it would be - like we are in the middle of the Pacific and cannot get off.
"I don't feel like I'm in New York. Sometimes I see the Manhattan skyline and I'm like, 'Oh my gosh, it's there.'"
The ninth seed will now play Romania's Sorana Cirstea in the second round.
