Transatlantic transfers: who is coming from America to the WSL?

With the new Women's National Soccer League season in the USA not starting until April 2021, a number of high-profile stars are looking for Women's Super League clubs to join on loan until the new year.

Women's Sport Daily looks at some of the biggest deals to go through so far and some of the players who could yet cross the Atlantic for the start of the new WSL season.

Rose Lavelle

Arguably the biggest signing of the summer so far, Rose Lavelle has joined Manchester City from OL Reign on loan. The American World Cup winner was at Washington Spirit but signed for Reign before immediately moving to Manchester.

The midfielder will link up with USA teammate Sam Mewis as well as England's Chloe Kelly who have also joined last season's WSL runners-up.

Lavelle told BBC Sport: "Manchester City is obviously a great club in the men's and the women's side. They have a lot of resources. I don't know much about the city yet but I know that the football culture is amazing so all of that was something I wanted to be a part of."

Jess Fishlock

Another OL Reign midfielder making a move to the WSL is Wales star Jess Fishlock. She has joined Reading on loan and is set to feature in the English top flight for the first time since 2012.

"Jess is a world class player that has a wealth of experience at the very top level of the women's game," Royals manager Kelly Chambers said.

"Not only does Jess have incredible experience behind her, she also possesses a fantastic understanding of the game that will only help the players around her on the pitch and our team to progress."

Tobin Heath & Christen Press

Although not yet confirmed, two more World Cup winners are expected to arrive in Manchester soon. Manchester United are believed to be close to signing Tobin Heath from Portland Thorns and Christen Press from Utah Royals.

The pair would add substantial international clout to United's line-up as they look to close the gap on City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Rachel Daly

Although yet to decide upon a destination, Lionesses star Rachel Daly admits she would be open to a loan spell in the Women's Super League

Daly helped Houston Dash to victory in the Challenge Cup last month and was named the competition's Most Valuable Player. "There might be a loan opportunity for a few months until January. I can't not play for eight months," Daly told BBC Sport.

"I'd be open to going anywhere and having a new experience. If I don't go on loan, the Dash will continue training and the league are looking at some friendly games - but it will be a long eight months."
