Crowds could return from start of Women's Super League season
Fans could be allowed in to Women's Super League matches from the opening weekend of the season after the government announced pilot schemes to let socially distanced spectators into grounds can resume from this weekend.
Although clubs will not officially be able to reopen for supporters until October, Women's Sports Daily understands the WSL is being considered as one of the test events and will be able to allow small crowds in from the first match onwards.
The new season gets underway on the weekend of 5/6 September. Having fans at matches would be a major boost for the league following the cancellation of the 2019-20 campaign back in March.
Unlike the men's Premier League, there was no Project Restart so clubs will welcome the additional income even though there will be heavy restrictions on numbers.
