Burrage and Boulter confirm semi-final places
British stars Katie Boulter and Jodie Burrage continued their unbeaten runs at the Progress Tour Women's Championships in London to confirm their places in the semi-finals.
The pair will meet this afternoon in their final round-robin match to decide who will finish top of Group Anne Keothavong.
Boulter beat Emily Arbuthnott 6-1 6-3 as she continues to manage her way back from injury and the extended lockdown. “I’ve been practicing well, I played some really good tennis out there, I was very happy," she said.
"Obviously I’ve got to maintain perspective, I’m not going to play great every day, I know that and that’s all part of coming back. But I’m just looking forward to getting out there and competing and hopefully I can bring the same level as I did today.”
Burrage (pictured) lost just one game on the way to a 6-1 6-3 victory against Alice Gillen. "I played a bit better than I did yesterday and I preferred Alice’s game style of her hitting a bit harder," the British No.7 said.
"it’s easier for me to get the pace and I think I served a lot better than I did yesterday and I had a bit more energy about myself. I actually played a really good match so I think it was a bit tougher than the scoreline suggests."
There was only one match in Group Elena Baltacha following the withdrawal of Fed Cup star Katie Swan through injury. Alicia Barnett outlasted Scotland's Maia Lumsden in a two-and-a-half hour marathon 6-7 6-4 6-4 and will now face Freya Christie in the final group match.
