Murray plans mixed-sex Ryder Cup-style tennis tournament
Jamie Murray has announced plans to host a team tennis event for Britain's top men and women in London later in July. It follows on from the Battle of the Brits men's tournament Murray organized in June.
The seven-times Grand Slam doubles champion wants mixed teams as players compete for points acrss various formats. The competition will be held at the National Tennis Centre from 27 July to 2 August.
British No.1 Johanna Konta and Murray's brother, Andy, have indicated they will take part. "That's the intention," Murray told The Times. "They both said they like the idea and intend to play as long as the fitness is there. I need our top players in order to put on these events."
Whilst the exact format has yet to be worked out, Murray is planning on having eight matches a day played on two courts. Crowds will not be allowed in but there are talks with television broadcasters after the Battle of the Brits was successfully streamed on Amazon Prime.
