Arsenal star Miedema named FWA Footballer of the Year
Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema has been named the Football Writers' Association Women's Footballer of the Year.
The Dutch star had scored 16 goals in the Women's Super League before the season was cancelled in March, making her the competition's top scorer.
She also helped the Netherlands reach the 2019 World Cup final. Chelsea and Lionesses star Beth England was second in the vote.
"This was a close-run decision because of the brilliant breakout season that Beth England had," said Jen O'Neill, chair of the FWA's women's subcommittee.
"However, Vivianne's clinical efficiency in front of goal and her seemingly effortless poise, can mean her all-round ability and footballing intelligence are sometimes overlooked. She is a worthy winner and a world-class performer."
Miedema is the third winner of the FWA women's award, following Fran Kirby in 2018 and Nikita Parris last year.
