The England and Wales Cricket Board has set out plans for the resumption of community cricket which could potentially get girls and women back playing before the end of the summer.

The five-point plan will allow the recreational game to return, with players in England currently at stage 3 which allows groups of up to six people to train together as long as social distancing is adhered to.

Stage four would be adapted matches and stage five a return to normal, free of any restrictions. "We have an ambition to get cricket played as soon as it is safe to do so," the ECB said in a statement.

"Although social distancing is likely to be in place for the foreseeable future, cricket is a non-contact team sport with individual disciplines and, as such, we are optimistic about getting cricket played this summer."

The roadmap only applies to England at this stage with the Welsh government expected to announce their own plans later this month.
